Exploring my own country

I'm in The Netherlands, and although this should feel like coming home, I don't feel at home here. It's great to see my friends and family again and it is a very beautiful country, but I don't want to stay (yet?). Somehow I just feel it's not for me.

I don't believe my love for Canada will ever recede, but at least my mind slowly makes space for a new love. I get used to the fact I'm not in Canada any longer. I still struggle to commit to a new path, but I know its part of the process of finding my way so I’m not giving myself a hard time about it. I don't expect myself to have it all figured out before Christmas! Life is a journey!
So far, my eyes are on an interesting vacancy in Switzerland, and my thoughts are getting more and more excited about Norway. Patience is key!

In the mean time, I enjoy seeing some friends again, spending quality time with my parents, my sister and her family. Also just simply being in The Netherlands is great. I eat lots of hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles) and gooood cheese. I'm also still amazed on how cheap a glass of wine is here...
And while I slowly adjust and make a plan of my next steps, I can't sit still either. I've found a nice way to get some exercise and simultaneously enjoy the one thing I miss here: mountains. I plan to do a bike ride!! What country better to do this then a flat one?
I also want to visit friends, but the trains are expensive here. The dots connect and then I have the brilliant idea of taking my bike from one friend to the other!
I've always wanted to do a little bike trip through The Netherlands. I never thought it would be autumn by the time I finally do it. And dutch autumns can be very stormy!
But, I am lucky and the weather is nearly perfect. Not too much wind, and not too much rain!

The Netherlands is beautiful. Beautiful coast with dunes, lots of birds like herons and swans, lots of neat country side houses and old windmills, lots of canals, rivers, etc. And the latter not making it easy or even possible to just navigate on the location of the sun.... you need to know where to be able to cross those waters. It becomes a fun trip!

So, this time some beautiful pictures of my very own country, The Netherlands.

Perfect bike roads!
"knooppuntennetwerk" got me lost a few times...
Apart from special bike-lights,
we apparently also have horse-lights!
Through the dunes

Lots of water to cross in Holland!

Some friends joined me for a "little"...
(we got lost again and added about 20km)
Kinderdijk

And crossing water again!

Still not at my destination... time to hop on the train!
